Bone and joint infection

Infection of bone and joint is very common in children. This is seen especially in preterm children, children with low immunity and history of NICU stay. The child will have decreased movement of involved limb (pseudo paralysis), fever and loss of weight. Usually, children have bacterial bone and joint infections. But nowadays Tuberculosis is also seen in children. So parents should be aware of these conditions. A child with septic arthritis and osteomyelitis will need operation and intravenous antibiotics. Long term follow-up is required to ensure that the bones grow well. If treated in time, results of surgery are good.
