Sprengel Shoulder
The scapula or wing bone normally descends from its original position high in the neck to the back while in the mother’s womb. If it does not descend, then it is called sprengel shoulder. It can be associated with anomalies of kidney. The child will present as decrease in over the head shoulder abduction. This position is required in holding on the crossbar while play or for pulling something down from above your head. It can be treated by surgery. The excess bone in the neck is removed and the scapula is brought down so that the child can do normal over the head abduction.
