My training as a doctor started in June 1995. During my MBBS days my favourite subjects were Anatomy and Surgery. I achieved Gold Medal in these subjects and stood first in Poona University in First Year MBBS. I finished my graduation in Jan 2000 from B J Medical College, Pune. I was interested in Orthopaedics from my MBBS days. My uncle Dr Ashok Desai who is a famous Orthopaedic Surgeon in Pune was my inspiration. I got admission for post- graduation in orthopaedics at J. J. Hospital and Grant Medical CollegeMumbai. My Post Graduate teacher was Dr A.N Johari, who is a famous Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon in Mumbai. My thesis topic was ‘Etiology and Management in Recurrent Clubfoot’. Under his able guidance I decided to take up Paediatric Orthopaedics as my speciality. After completing my MS in Orthopaedics with flying colours I joined Wadia Children’s Hospital, Mumbai as a registrar in Paediatric Orthopaedics. Working in BMC hospital made merealise there are many children with Orthopaedic problems who are unable to afford treatment because of financial problems. I also got to see and treat difficult and complicated cases during this period. I followed it up with a fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics in Seoul, Korea with Professor H.R Song and Prof Lee. This was followed by a fellowship in Cerebral Palsy and Gait Laboratory under Prof Kerr Graham at Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. At these centres I got an opportunity to learn latest techniques in Paediatric Orthopaedics. After my return to India I joined as a consultant in Paediatric Orthopaedics in some of the leading hospitals in Pune.
